Only 20 permits are issued per day to enter north coyote buttes where the wave lies. Managed by the bureau of land management only 20 lucky people per day are allowed to visit coyote buttes north and the wave in arizona. Ten are given away in an online lottery 3 4 months ahead of time the other 10 are issued in an in person lottery at the blm visitor center in kanab one day before you want to hike. A permit issued by the us bureau of land management blm is required to see the wave. Only twenty permits per day 10 on line and 10 walk in are available and demand far exceeds supply. They like to sit in the steel structure of the bridge. During the most popular months april may september october there can be over 150 people applying for the ten walk in daily permits.

Unless you have a permit you can cross the wave off the list and if only have that much time trying to get a permit via the walk up lottery is pointless. In order to be included on that list you must obtain a permit. Only 20 visitors a day are allowed to walk through the ravine and permits are required. For the lucky few who get one of the twenty daily permits it will be an unforgettable experience.

To apply for a wave permit start at the coyote buttes north lottery page on the recreation gov website. Turn off us 89 about halfway between kanab utah and page arizona if you can get a hiking permit that is. Ten 10 spots per day are given out in this manner.
